The Chunky Soup photoblog covers what I see in London everyday. London is huge, diverse and plays host to thousands of sights everyday and I’m trying to record some of them
When I came down to London I was amazed by everything, it was all new and fresh, completely different to where I came from and even the night buses were a novelty. As you become more familiar with a place the less you notice and the sights increasingly pass you by. As it was with London and I realised that I was seeing less and less.
Chunky Soup started out as a way for me to open my eyes again, to fix some of those sights and display them to others, who I hope will find them as interesting as I do.
The blog has a very fixed format; it’s all landscape, to keep it uniform, and it all has to be full frame. This sometimes means a shot contains more than I expect, sometimes the composition is not as tight as I might want it to be and at other times the framing is too tight and something has been cut off. I know a few shots could benefit from a slight crop or straightening but as this is an exercise in both observation and composition I have to live with what comes out and aim to improve the shot next time or appreciate the value of what I’ve produced.
I photograph as I travel about on foot, by bike or public transport and it’s usually from the hip with the lens wide open. So far nothing has been cropped, I intend to keep it that way
